domain enum variable to mysql integer

Hi all,
I'm having a User domain class with at enum value "special" with some values (notVery(1),special(2),verySpecial(3)..and a private final Integer value.
Now in the User table in sql i have a "special" field of integer value. i'm getting a
"cannot cast to java.lang.Integer" error for some reason
Is there any way to make it work?
